So 2 days ago, feeling bored by life on a US server with my mediocre 70 arena warrior, I decided to reroll on an EU server. I also rolled Horde to experience the other side of the game, new lore, new questlines etc. And to complete the change I selected a non-carebear server this time around.
My new characters are now Bol, a level 19 Orc Hunter. Originally I was rolling alone and knowing no-one on the new server wanted an ez mode character I could get to 70 fast and provide the others with the gold they would need. However shortly after Bol turned 10, J decided to roll on the server as well, so Bol now has a 19 hunter buddy. Ez mode squared.
I expected to hate the huntard, and for Bol to grow to hate me as he did all the dirty work and heavy lifting earning much needed gold for the rest of the family, but he is actually kind of fun. Will be taking the two hunters into ragefire chasm shortly to see if we can 2 man it safely.
Next in the family is Brokentoe, a 15 druid. Also running with an equal level druid partner. I want to explore the PVE content of the game in more depth this time around wow and this combo should hav ereal potential in getting groups togther. One of us can tank and one of us can heal - so all we need is 3 random dps monkeys. If we do find someone who wants to tank or heal one of us can dps easily enough in kitty or offtank if the encounter needs it. I'm really excited about doing content with this pairing.
Having the 2 main slots taken care of early means I should be able to be more selective in the pugging and not have to run with mages whose only concern is topping the damage meter (happily breaking tps records along the way), shadow priests who like to pull themselves and hunters who launch an arcane volley into the furthest mob they can see and after pulling 10 people into the group feign death and wonder why we wiped.
I feel the need to put a lot of research and effort into race choice with each character. With my alliance toons I selected race almost at random with a cursory look at the racials and while it turned out "ok" it wasn't perfect. It's weird that a game like WoW which is about accessibility and non-permament choices (with gold/time you can reverse most decisions) makes you make an arguably vital one before you know what you'll be doing in the endgame and before you have any idea how to play WoW. Some people argue that racials aren't important and
The choice of race for Calypsia, a level 11 Paladin, was thankfully as easy as that for my druid. My only mangina toon this time around, and female simply because I couldn't bring myself to roll a male blood elf. Way too fruity. Even for me. She is running with a blood elf rogue. I tank, while the rogue backstab crits mobs. It's pretty damn fast. Mana tap is HUGE. I can pull with my Pally without having to learn engineering. Admittedly only if the mob uses mana, but still.... HUGE.
We come finally to Tankit, a level 5 Tauren warrior. The only toon currently running solo. He's the main reason behind this adventure. He hopes to grow up to be an endgame PVE tank at the cutting edge of top level wrath content and is the toon most likely to change servers at 70.
Overall things are going much better than I expected. Levelling is fast and fun in pairs. Lack of money was my main concern but copper ore and light leather sell for a nice price so we're already fast closing in on 100 gold between us and we can even afford a leatherworker and an enchanter or alchemist. Tip: 1st purcahse with money should be bags, equip yourself with extra 6 slots as soon as you can afford it, then switch to 8 slots as soon as you can. Bags pay for themselves. As soon as Netherweave 16 slots come up cheap on AH I'll be buying.
Gear is the main issue, our orcs and druids were in greys and whites for the longest time, but quest gear is getting us there slowly. When rolling an alt on my US server I ignored quest gear entirely as 99% of the time I already had something better. This is a richer experience tho starting from scratch and that makes up for the dent in levelling time. And it is only a dent, hunters x2 fly through content. The younger children will have it easier anyway as Brokentoe and Bol send greens their way.
